2011 AMSF Drive Day NSW
A GREY, WET, BUT FUN DRIVE DAY AT EASTERN CREEK
As the 21st July approached, there were a few nervous AMSF staff watching the weather forecast intently as it went from ‘sunshine’ to ‘clearing showers’ to ‘showers’ and finally ‘windy with heavy showers’! As bad as the weather forecast was however, we were delighted to welcome close to 150 driving enthusiasts and AMSF supporters, bringing with them over 40 cars. The collection of cars on the day was varied and exciting, ranging from Jack Brabham and Stefan Johansson’s original F1 cars to a 1967 Broadspeed Mini Cooper, a Porsche Carerra Cup car, a Ferrari 458, and the wet track made for a challenging and, for some, new driving experience.
During the morning, attendees kept warm with espresso coffee and tea, with some making the cosy hospitality suite their own whilst others braved the elements in pursuit of their passion. The lunch was an entertaining affair, hosted by Greg Rust and including casual and close up chats with Motorsport icon and AMSF Director Mark Skaife, AMSF Director Geoff Morgan, CAMS Rising Star Drivers Trent Harrison and Jack Le Brocq and AMSF Rookie Rising Star Drivers Jon Collins and Callum Mitchell whilst guests enjoyed a hearty BBQ lunch. Lucky raffle winners won thousands of dollars worth of prizes including multiple advanced driving courses, signed framed Brabham and Webber photographs, tickets to the VIP Premiere of the film SENNA in Sydney and AMSF merchandise. In addition, one lucky attendee bid his way to the top to own a vintage New York taxi, securing a unique piece of the Big Apple and raising valuable funds for the AMSF.
Drivers and passengers didn’t let the continued rain cramp their style, and the rest of the day went smoothly and without incident. A big thank you to all our guests on the day, with a special mention to our Network Group Members who attended. Also, thank you to everyone who helped to make the day possible: Peter Boylan, Brian Wilson, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Driving Solutions, AMSF Staff, Sandra Lordanic, Martyn Fielden, and all the staff at the Australian Racing Drivers Club at Eastern Creek.
Our next Drive Day is scheduled to take place in Victoria in November/December 2011 - if you would like to register your interest in the event and ensure that you receive an invitation, please email events@amsf.org.au with your details.
