For the very first time, the Australian Motor Sport Foundation (AMSF) is granting Australia's young aspiring motor sport talent open access to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) at its inaugural AMSF Driver Development Camp.
Designed to help participants unlock the secrets to success in elite level motor sport, the camp is being made available to young drivers seeking to compete at the highest levels of motor sport both in Australia and internationally, including circuit, karting, rally and off road competition.
To be held at the AIS in Canberra from 28–30 January 2008, the camp will be based on the highly successful CAMS Rising Star Program, but with a number of new and exciting additions.
AMSF General Manager, Quentin Crombie believes this is a great opportunity for the Foundation to help support young motor sport competitors who are looking to improve their performance both on and off the track.
"This will be the first time that such a camp has been made available to the broader motor sport community. For those who attend, it will unlock many of the secrets required to be successful at the elite level and offer a range of practical tools that can be applied throughout their motor sport careers."
The camp will focus on improving individual performance for motor sport competitors and will cover topics such as nutrition, cardiovascular activity, strength and conditioning, recovery, psychology, media, sponsorship, career planning and competing internationally.
Although the camp will include some theoretical components, it will be highly interactive with a comprehensive performance report and a number of tools being provided for application away from the AIS. It will also give participants an opportunity to benchmark their performance against previous elite attendees including recent CAMS Rising Stars and other Australian drivers competing internationally.
Crombie also believes that it will prove to be an excellent pre-cursor to other programs.
"For those who participate, the camp will give them a head-start over other competitors who wish to gain selection into the prestigious CAMS Rising Star and other elite motor sport programs in 2009 and beyond."
The cost of the camp is $2,990 (inc. GST) which includes accommodation, apparel, learning materials and all meals expenses. Participants will stay on-site at the AIS and will be accompanied by an AMSF Camp Coordinator.
Spots are limited and restricted to the first twelve (12) competitors who apply and meet the pre-selection criteria. Applications close on Friday 30 November.
