Pye and Erickson To Fly Aussie Flag in UK
October 06, 2009
AMSF International Rising Star Daniel Erickson will be joined by CAMS Rising Star Scott Pye in representing Australia at the British Racing and Sports Car Club Formula Ford Festival; to be held at Brands Hatch on 17 – 18 October.
The Formula Ford Festival is an annual meeting that is the culmination of the British racing season; and gives drivers all over the world the opportunity to race against the best and launch an international career. Previous winners of the Festival include our own Mark Webber and Russell Ingall, as well as current Formula One Championship leader Jenson Button.
Both Erickson and Pye will benefit from significant financial support from the AMSF in representing Australia at the Festival.
CAMS Rising Star Scott Pye is excited at the opportunity to show his skills and abilities on the international motor sport stage.
“I am really looking forward to the challenge of the Formula Ford Festival and racing against the best in the world,” Pye said.
“It will be my first time racing over in the UK, so this will be a great opportunity to get a feel for the environment and the racing conditions. I have had a really solid season in Australia so will be confident heading into the Festival.”
AMSF International Rising Star Daniel Erickson is also taking a lot of confidence into the Brands Hatch event, recently finishing the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain in fifth position.
The highlight of Erickson’s season saw him take out Round 13 at Donington Park from pole position. Erickson claimed another pole at Silverstone; and consistently finished inside the top ten. This level of consistency confirmed Erickson’s standing in the Championship, and was rewarded with the title of the best rookie for the 2009 season.
“I want to thank everyone who has helped and supported my British Formula Ford Championship effort this year: my family and sponsors, especially the Australian Motor Sport Foundation; Kevin Mills Racing; and Mike Borland, who builds the Spectrum cars in Melbourne”, Erickson said.
“I am really excited about the Festival. To finish fifth in the championship was a great effort; and hopefully I can carry the good form into Brands Hatch”, Erickson said.
“I have raced at Brands Hatch twice this season with some positive results, so looking to have some success at the Festival.”
The British Racing and Sports Car Club Formula Ford Festival will be held on 17 – 18 October at Brands Hatch. The AMSF wishes both Scott and Daniel all the best at the Festival in their pursuit for success.
