Ricciardo Clinches British F3 Title

September 14, 2009

Past AMSF Funded driver Daniel Ricciardo has won the British Formula 3 International Championship with one round remaining.

Ricciardo wrapped up the Championship in style, taking maximum points in Race 1 and a fourth place in Race 2. Speaking on the British F3 International Website, Ricciardo was thrilled with the championship victory.

"This is everything I've wanted since the start of the season," said a grinning Daniel.

"And for it to come around a bit early makes it a bit sweeter. It still hasn't quite sunk in but I'm sure that by the end of tonight I'll realise it and party hard. If I can now follow in Jaime Alguersuari's footsteps that would be great - I'm not saying I'll be in F1 next year, but I'd like to be there in the near future. That's my dream,” Ricciardo said.

Ricciardo becomes only the fourth Australian driver to win the prestigious Championship; behind Tim Schenken, David Walker and David Brabham. Tim Schenken, the first Australian to win the British F3 title (1968) was very pleased to see Ricciardo carry on the Australian success in the category.

“I was very happy to see Daniel take out the championship on the weekend. The British F3 Championship has been regarded for a long time as being very competitive; and for Daniel to win is a fantastic effort,” Schenken said.

“The F3 Championship has been a proven and successful path to Formula 1, and I wish Daniel all the best in chasing his racing ambitions,” Schenken said.

Ricciardo’s final round of the British F3 International Series is set to be held at the famous Brands Hatch circuit this weekend (19-20 September).

The AMSF congratulates Daniel on his very successful season; and wishes him all the success for the 2010 season and beyond.
