The 2009 Genuine Ford Part Australian Formula Ford Championship (AFFC) concludes this weekend at the Gold Coast street circuit, with the CAMS Rising Stars looking to finish their seasons off in style. Fresh from his Formula Ford Festival outing at the Brands Hatch circuit in the United Kingdom, Scott Pye is confident he can challenge Mitch Evans for second place in the championship. “I took so much out of my experiences in England last week. Even though I didn’t get the results I would have liked, it was fantastic to race in the northern hemisphere and go up against the best in the world”, Pye said. After qualifying for the Festival in seventh place, Pye was unlucky in the final and was pushed off the track in the second half of the race. Although not the result the CAMS Rising Star was after, Pye takes an enormous amount of confidence into the final AFFC round on the Gold Coast. “I am really looking forward to the Gold Coast this weekend. I am so motivated and desperate to claim second in the championship, and hopefully can have a really successful weekend and finish the season with a win.” For Luke Ellery and Nathan Morcom, the Gold Coast presents an opportunity to have a solid finish to the 2009 season. Ellery currently sits in ninth position and is looking for a successful final round to finish in the top ten. “Phillip Island was a positive round for me and I was able to race up with the frontrunners. I am really excited about racing on the Gold Coast and hopefully I can be up near the front again and finish off the season on a positive note”, Ellery said. This weekend will allow fellow Rising Star Nathan Morcom to finish the 2009 season with a solid result; carrying some good form into the Gold Coast round. Morcom finished fourth in Race 3 at Phillip Island, and is looking to up with the frontrunner again this weekend. “Phillip Island was a great experience for me as I was able to race up the front with the championship leaders. I took so much away from this and hopefully I can finish off the season and be up the front again this weekend”, Morcom said. The Formula Ford’s take to the Gold Coast street circuit for the first time on Thursday morning for the first of two practice sessions which will be followed by qualifying that afternoon. They then contest three races over the next three days, wrapping up on Sunday afternoon. Race three will be televised live on the Seven Network on Sunday afternoon from 1.30pm – please check your local guides. Driver Profiles
