Rising Stars all out attack on the Island
September 15, 2011
The CAMS and AMSF Rising Star team is looking stronger than ever as they head to Phillip Island for this weekend’s round six of the Australian Formula Ford Championship, just one week after the Minda Motorsport crew celebrated young star Jack Le Brocq’s maiden round victory at Sandown Raceway.
While the abilities of CAMS Rising Stars Le Brocq and Harrison are evident on the national platform, this weekend will add strength to the mix as AMSF Rookie Rising Star Callum Mitchell makes his national debut, having proven to be a consistent top ten contender in the Victorian state competition.
Rounding out the full throttle four car outfit is AMSF Rookie Rising Star Jon Collins who made his national debut in Round 3 at Eastern Creek where he showed promise and craft when challenging the more experienced field. Securing a top ten result in his first weekend with the national competitors, Collins is keen to be back on the national circuit, explaining,
“I’d like to think my last national results speak for themselves. We’re all showing how hard the team is working and with greater results coming for all our drivers, it’s looking promising. Coming off a top ten first time out, I’m hoping to now be top ten all weekend and there’s no reason why we can’t.”
About to experience that first national event, Mitchell said of his first ‘big time’ weekend, “I’m really looking forward to joining the strong national team. I know it will be a challenge, but we’ve had success and shown our ability in the state series so I now know I’m ready to make the step up.”
Experienced on the national scene and now a round winner, Le Brocq is keen to continue his run of success. “It’s been a lot of work to get to the point of a round win. We now know that, with where the team is at, where we are as drivers, and with a strong direction of where we’re all going, anything is possible.”
With his own national glory surely to come this season, Harrison is confident that he too has what it takes. “I’ve had good starts and have proven I have pace and can recover in the harder outings. We’ll be up there, it will all pull together soon and Phillip Island is a great track where we’ve shown we’re fast so I’m looking forward to a very positive weekend.”
Minda Motorsport Team Manager Bruin Beasley could be nothing short of impressed by the dedication of his drivers and the performance of the crew across the season so far, stating,
“The Rookie Rising Stars have been a great addition to the team, all bonding and helping each other to perform, learn and strive for improvement as the season goes by. The team is a really good place to be, and when the pressure’s on that’s when things come together.
“With both our CAMS Rising Stars and AMSF Rookie Rising Stars at the island, it’ll be a very strong showing from the team and we’re looking forward to some more great results as we know we have drivers capable of great achievements.”
With this season’s build up having included round and race wins, lap records, best presented awards, impressive debuts and a learning curve to develop the young stars, each driver is outright showcasing their abilities. Not only is the Rising Star program giving these racers the opportunity to be on pace and perform with the nation’s best, but to develop a race winning craft, uphold respect for the track environment, support and guide the crew to continue improving their Penrite Mygale machines after every session, and to have the skills to achieve and promote in one of the toughest and most respected feeder categories this country has to offer.
The AMSF Rising Star Programs are proudly supported by CAMS, The Australian Sports Commission, Minda Motorsport, Penrite, Go Markets, OAMPS, Relux Slabs, Revolution Racegear and Mark Webber.
