Rising Stars - 3 strong with local support for the finale

November 11, 2011

Le Brocq     Callum Mitchell

As we head to Symmons Plains for this weekend’s final round of the 2011 Australian Formula Ford Championship, CAMS Rising Stars Jack Le Brocq and Trent Harrison will receive local support as Tasmanian young-gun Callum Mitchell steps back up to the national game.

For the CAMS Rising Stars and AMSF Rookie Rising Star it has been a season of incredible development, the highs and lows of motorsport, team building and professional development and this weekend gives the young racers one more chance to impress as they look ahead to what season 2012 may bring.

After securing his second round win on the streets of Surfers Paradise, Le Brocq is enthused for the final Australian event before he makes another international journey that could change the face of his racing career, but there’s no doubt Le Brocq is fully focused on the southern circuit and making his year a three-peat of round successes for the Penrite / Minda crew, saying,

“I can’t believe it’s the final round already. It’s been such a big year and now it’s time to finish on a high note for the team and the sponsors that continue to make this all possible.

“We performed well in the wet here at Symmons (Plains) last year and we’re coming off a round win, so the team will pull together again and there’s no reason not to do well. With the championship win already decided, I’m definitely focused on securing 2nd place and capping off what has been a busy, valuable and enjoyable season.

“The year with the AMSF team has brought a lot of improvements through all of the opportunities and experiences, and I’m 110% dedicated to making this season one to remember with more celebrations.”

Trent Harrison has performed well across the year, with challenges and successes including his maiden race victory, and is ensuring that the next Penrite Mygale in the garage is ready to challenge at the front and secure his place in the championship top five as he looks to the opportunities for the coming season.

“I need to bounce back from the Gold Coast round, and knowing that we raced here at Symmons (Plains) last year and did well , starts that on a positive. It’s a great track, who knows what the weather will bring, but if it rains it could fall into our hands a little bit.

“I’ve certainly learnt a bit about keeping my head up given this year’s circumstances, so it’s all about staying positive, keeping focused on what needs to be done and that’s win.

“I’m confident that we’ll again have speed and I’m looking forward to finishing the year on a high.”

Local Tasmanian star Callum Mitchell in the Go Markets #11 Mygale made his national debut earlier this season and is more than ready to return to the national stakes with the support from his local community, on his home track that surprisingly he is yet to complete race laps on.

“I’ve been hanging out for this for ages, I’m currently finishing my studies and so keen to make it all happen , I’m so glad it’s finally here! You don’t get the opportunity to race in your home state very often!

“This will be the first time I’ve actually raced at Symmons (Plains), having only ever been around the place on a push bike and then a month ago doing some laps in a Formula Vee. I’ll be relying on the home crowd to give me the extra boost, and I’ve no doubt with the team and the Tasmanians, it’s going to be a great finish to the national season and a great experience for me.

“I’ll be doing the best I can , and being the finale of the national championship, I’ ll try to put on a bit of a show for my sponsors and let teams know that I can drive . I want to make it to the front.”

The Australian Motor Sport Foundation racers will hit the track for the final three race assault of the year, and as always, they’ll be looking to do it in style.
