V8 test for CAMS Rising Star - Jack Le Brocq
August 05, 2011
Following an outstanding weekend at the AFFC Round 3 at Eastern
Creek where CAMS Rising Star, Jack Le Brocq walked away with a lap record, he
was then invited to be a Driver at the Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport - Gulf Western
Oil Sponsor Drive Day at Eastern Creek for 2 days early last week.
Jack was then invited back to take part in a Rookie Evaluation day
at Winton Motor Raceway on the 2nd of August. He tested alongside
British Formula Ford front runner Nick McBride and experienced racer Kristian
Lindbom.
Jack completed close to 40 laps at both Eastern Creek and Winton
over the three days and this gave him a very good understanding of what the
cars are all about and how they work.
“I was absolutely rapt to get the call a couple of weeks ago and to
get an opportunity like this, you just need to grab it with both hands and run
with it!”
“In my first laps that I completed in the car around Eastern Creek,
I found it a bit daunting as the track was still damp in sections, but I was
able to navigate around the circuit and get my first full on taste of what a V8
Supercar has to offer. It was also a great experience to take a number of the
Team Sponsors on some laps around the track and it was fun showing them what
the cars can do.”
Jack made his way up to Winton early on Tuesday morning to take part
in the Rookie Evaluation day and completed close to 20 laps around the Winton
circuit in his first V8 experience.
“It was awesome to get up to Winton and benchmark ourselves against
each other and also against what Warren Luff and Taz Douglas had set the
previous day. By the end of the day I have realized just how much of a
different animal these cars are to drive compared to a Formula Ford and to
drive a V8 you just have to be so gentle and try not to rush it otherwise you
just cook the tyres and the grip just dramatically drops away!”
Jack would like to thank Lucas Dumbrell and the Lucas Dumbrell
Motorsport Team for this awesome opportunity.
