Vale Margo Jones

December 30, 2011

CAMS is saddened by the passing of Margo Jones. Margo became a motorsport official in 1986 working trackside as a Flag Marshal / Communicator at both Surfers Paradise International and Lakeside Raceways. After a few years her skills saw her move into Race Control as a Radio Operator and thence to becoming a Chief Communicator, as well as an Assistant Clerk of Course. Margo ultimately became Chief of Communications at the Gold Coast IndyCar events for many years.

As her knowledge of the sport developed she moved into a role with ProCar before becoming a Secretary of the Meeting, a function she carried out jointly with her husband of ten years, John, a well-known Queensland motor sport official. Her business was active organising and administering events as diverse as Street Sprints through to the Gold Coast event for several years.

Margo’s involvement with CAMS came through her membership of the Queensland Motor Racing Officials Association (QMROA). She served on the Committee of the QMROA for a total of seventeen years, holding positions ranging through to Club Secretary. In 2004 Margo was awarded an Honorary Life Membership of the QMROA in recognition of her selfless contributions to the Association. Margo will be missed by many competitors, organisers and motor sport officials.

CAMS extends its sincere condolences to Margo's family and friends.
