Open Wheel Racing is alive and well in Australia, and it’s only
going to get stronger. It is with this philosophy that the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship
is forging ahead into a new era into the start of a new decade, with the new,
youthful management team now in place forging ahead with
exciting new plans to enhance and build the championship to be bigger and
better before. The Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship is Australia’s premier Open
Wheel category, and our only truly international formula. Aussie F3 cars
run the same specifications as Europe and Asia giving the series true
international recognition. Formula 3 cars have also evolved to be Australia’s fastest racing cars.
At Phillip Island, the F3 lap record is some seven seconds per lap faster
than a V8 Supercar, and even three-seconds faster than a MotoGP World
Championship motorcycle. The result of this is the most spectacular racing
possible and the closest thing to Formula 1 cars in Australian Motorsport.
The past four years have witnessed the ‘internationalisation’ of the series,
with no less than 20 drivers from overseas racing in the championship.
In 2009 a record seven drivers – from four nationalities other than
Australia - were represented at the final round at Sandown.
This growth is expected to continue into 2010, offering the series significant
international exposure as well as a strong domestic presence, thanks
to the participation of strong Aussie talent.
The F3ADC is noted for its close competition and furious racing.
Over the past four seasons, the championship has averaged five different race
winners per season, nine different podium finishers per season and four
different pole position winners per season.
In each of the last three seasons the championship has gone down to the
final race of the year with at least two drivers
split by less than five points.
The Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship has rapidly established
itself as an entertainment package of its own, producing spectacular,
high-speed action on the race tracks of Australia.
Now the series has a solid foundation and a long-term plan to encourage
growth and development to ensure that the Australian Drivers Championship
and Formula 3 racing in Australasia has its strongest years ahead of it.
In 2010 the championship will feature an all new race format and added
excitement to continue the exciting growth of Australia’s fastest category
a long way into the future.
