Australian Rally Championship

ARC

The 'Australian Rally Championship' (ARC) is the premier rally series in Australia and consists of a five round championship for drivers and high profile teams from all over Australia. As the pinnacle of rallying in Australia, the Australian Rally Championship is a televised series that attracts interest from all walks of life.

The ARC brings in competition from a host of teams and drivers who compete for outright and class trophies. The likes of Neal Bates, Simon and Eli Evans and Glen Raymond all compete for outright honours whilst drivers like Michael Boaden, Cameron Sluce and John Berne battle it out for the Privateers' Cup.

Rallying is without doubt one of the most thrilling motor sport disciplines to watch. Its sideways action and adrenaline-pumping speed as the cars race through forests is extraordinary for the fans who throng to the forest, as well as for those who prefer the comforts of their lounge room watching the championship on Network Ten.

The premier vehicle categories are FIA Group N and Super 2000 (which combined will become known as Super Production). Competing alongside are the unique to Australia Production Rally Car and Group N (P) classes. The Privateers’ Cup provides a competition for those competing in the ARC on a budget, with limitations on both tyres and fuel.

2009 saw the introduction of the 2WD Australian Rally Championship and also the Showroom Rally Series for more standard specification cars and the Eco Rally Challenge which caters for low emission vehicles.

The club and state rally scene provides an excellent training ground for competitors moving to the ARC, with many up and coming young crews doing extremely well in the championship.

The ARC is proving a feeder of talent to world rallying. Its most promising graduate Chris Atkinson moved to the world stage with a competitive drive in the World Rally Championship with the Subaru World Rally Team after nearly winning the 2004 ARC. A number of ARC co-drivers have also competed at this level, including Dale Moscatt who is now competing with the Citroen junior team.

Round 2 of the 2011 Championship, the International Rally of Queensland was also a round of the FIA’s Asia Pacific Rally Championship. This event attracted the best drivers and teams from the region to Australia’s Sunshine Coast.

Rally crews also had the opportunity to display their talents in front of the world’s best at Rally Australia, a round of the World Rally Championship  held in September in northern NSW.

The ARC 2011 Calendar is as follows:

13/15th  May  International Rally of Queensland
